I Will Be Proactive
“You must act, or be you will be acted
upon.”
Most people in life wind up
in one of three categories:
In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey illustrates a very important point
when it comes to the human mind. Covey mentions that we all have choices.
In life, if you choose to do
nothing about you circumstances, you are still making a decision. For example, if you do not pursue your business goals, you have chosen to
remain in the same position.
If you don’t choose
to take action, you have chosen not
to take action.
One of the greatest keys to
success is being proactive. A proactive person is able to think about problems that might occur down the road and makes decisions that will
prevent them before they ever happen.
We know that in life, most
people are motivated either by the desire to gain pleasure or avoid pain. Most of the time, we are motivated by the desire to avoid pain and
the fear of loss.
So if you find it hard to
think and act proactively then you must motivate yourself in ways that will “trick” your mind into feeling that if you don’t act now you will
suffer the consequences later.
For example, when the weekend
comes and you feel like lying around all day, imagine yourself not having enough income to pay your rent. Or if you currently run a business,
imagine losing your business and having to face a grouchy boss everyday for the rest of your life.
Would that motivate you
enough to work on making your business successful?
Ultimately it is up to YOU to
motivate yourself and you have no one to blame but you if you don’t work hard enough to reach your goals.
Lesson: Never say “I
can’t”. Always ask “How can I…?”
